How Natural Interaction can Bootstrap Self-Supervised Learning

This has been in the works for quite some time now. If you find the ideas teased in the video interested take a look at the accompanying paper [1], to be presented at this years ICLR.

How to Use t-SNE Effectively

Although extremely useful for visualizing high-dimensional data, t-SNE plots can sometimes be mysterious or misleading. By exploring how it behaves in simple cases, we can learn to use it more effectively.

Working with t-SNE myself recently I found this post on Distill tremendously helpful. Especially the interactive part taught me what I could expect from this visualization method and what not.

Speaking for yourself

Have you ever wondered how much to charge for public speaking? In this piece by Merlin Mann that question is addressed thouroughly and even more Merlin goes into detail how to negotiate, since speaking is not just speaking, but there’s a whole lot of preperation going into a 20min talk.

You’ll be amazed to learn how many people who tell you they want “just a 20-minute talk,” honestly (really, no, really) see this as just a 20-minute time investment on your part. It never stops astonishing me. Never.

Good Coffee in Frankfurt

I have been an avid coffee drinker ever since I began to study. The continuous stress, the huge pile of work and at most the early lecture times of the physics undergraduate program drove me into consuming large amounts of coffee.

Now, a few years later and and with a degree of atmospheric physics in my pocket I still drink a 2-3 cups of coffee everyday, but recently I discovered that drinking coffee can be so much more than just your morning ritual and good coffee not only is naturally sweet but also so much better than my regular filtered coffee for the last few years. I am not an expert on that matter, so why do I tell you that? Because right at the heart of my university I found a little place where coffee culture is celebrated and I believe that everyone who visits this city should also pay a visit to the coffeeshop „hopplo“. Some places are just magic and the charm of students hanging out, the smell of freshly baked waffles and of course magnificent coffee makes this coffee-shop one of them.
